New Resident Chargé d’Affaires Monsignor Hubertus Matheus Maria VAN MEGEN

The Apostolic Nunciature – Vatican Embassy for Zambia and Malawi has announced that the Holy See – Vatican, in order to give a more stable and continuous presence of its diplomatic Representative in Malawi, has decided to appoint a Chargé d’Affaires ad interim with a permanent residence in Lilongwe – Malawi,  Monsignor Hubertus Matheus Maria VAN MEGEN.

This decision means that, while the Apostolic Nuncio – Vatican Ambassador remains His Grace Archbishop Nicolas Girasoli resident in Zambia, the Chargé d’Affaires, Monsignor Hubertus Matheus Maria VAN MEGEN will be in charge for the ordinary administration of the Apostolic Nunciature – Vatican Embassy in Lilongwe as well as for the Diplomatic, Civil Authorities and Church’s affairs and representation.

Monsignor Van Megen has officially been presented to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Malawi by the Apostolic Nuncio – Vatican Ambassador to Malawi and Zambia, His Grace Nicolas Girasoli, and installed on the 22nd September 2010.

The Episcopal Conference of Malawi welcomes this development with a sense of deep gratitude as it signals yet another milestone in the history of the Catholic Church in Malawi.  The presence of a resident Chargé d’Affaires is recognition of the growth of the Church in Malawi and a visible sign of the Unity and the Catholicity of the Church.
